We have an opportunity to be involved in making an X-Ray machine available in the village of Nata for local people and surrounding villages (10,000+ people). Up to the present date people with suspected broken bones, for example, have had to travel 100km to Gweta hospital. The road to Gweta is pothole-ridden gravel and people sometimes find when they get there that the machine is not working and have to return home in pain and without an x-ray. In the recent past this machine has not been working.

We would like to be involved in ordering a portable digital machine that will be placed in a partner clinic in Nata, and it will be available for people to be referred to use it and get the help they need locally. This machine is fully digital and will provide instant digital X-Rays to the patient, without the need to develop slides.

The service will be made available for use to people through the various national and private insurance covers and for referrals by all medical providers. The cost of the machine will be paid back to the charitable funds of CARE Botswana over an extended period, for re-use in charitable projects. The benefit will be the immediate availability and the provision of a reliable service to the remote rural population in this part of the country. In addition, we intend for X-Rays to be provided free of charge to those who do not have any medical cover and are locally assessed to be in need of charitable assistance, on a case by case basis, through our local medical partner.

The machine will be ordered through a company that has reliably provided equipment to the clinic in the past and who can offer warranty and aftercare. More details on the intended machine are found here: www.ari-cn.com/product/nkx-100d-mobile-digital-radiography-x-ray-system/ The cost includes sea shipping to Botswana and import handling charges.
